firm profile

Dave started his own firm specializing in energy/socially conscious design in Petersburgh, NY in 1984. Dave's work is designed with compatibility to the neighboring "built" community, as evidenced by his 1988, and 1991 Preservation Merit Awards from the Historic Albany Foundation, as well as six National Awards of Excellence for Project Design in 1991, 1993, 1995,1996, 1998, and 1999 from NAHRO (National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials) for various Capital District projects serving the low income residential population.

While working his way through Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute School of Architecture as a carpenter, Dave received public recognition for his original design and construction of a solar house utilizing recycled juice cans configured into a solar heating system (first place in The National American Institute of Architects Energy Conscious Design competition in 1976). Dave has maintained his dedication to Energy Conscious Design over the years, and was certified in 2006 as a LEED AP (United States Green Building Counsel, Leadership in Environmental and Energy Design Accredited Professional. Dave is currently working on the second and third phases of a multi-unit, LEED, green, Affordable, scattered site urban housing project in Schenectady, New York. The 1st house was completed in late 2008, and was certified by the United States Green Building Council, as the first LEED platinum house in New York State. Several additional houses are now complete all receiving LEED gold or Platinum certifications.

In January, 2009, Dave received the Nations' Highest award, Platinum, in the HUD Secretary's Design Excellence in the Best in American Living Award (BALA) competition, jointly sponsored by the National Association of Home Builders, Professional Builder magazine, and the Department of Housing and Urban Development. The award was granted based on architectural design, compatibility w/ the existing historic neighborhood integrated with Sustainable living.

There are very few Architectural firms with experience in the "green" / environmental sector ... there are even fewer specializing in this work.
